About Senegal

Senegal, located on the west coast of Africa, offers you a unique African adventure. With desert lands in the north and lush tropical forests in the south, the country has something for everyone.

Dakar, Senegal’s capital city, is vibrant and full of human energy. Whether it’s walking through the busy streets, visiting the bustling markets or dancing the night away in one of the many nightclubs, if it’s activity you want, you will find it in Dakar. But a visit to the capital isn’t all about the hustle and bustle. History, tranquility and contemplation abound on the Ile de Gorée. Here, as you ponder the role this island once played in the slave trade, you can relax while strolling its winding alley ways, admiring the colonial buildings and having a peaceful island escape. On the coast to the north is Saint Louis, West Africa’s first French settlement. You can experience the city’s unique historical charm and beautiful colonial architecture.

If sun, sea and sand are what you’re looking for, then look no further than Senegal. Both the northern and southern coasts are replete with beautiful white beaches. You can find rustic solitude or be pampered at a grand resort. The coast also features many charming fishing villages where hundreds of tiny boats make for unforgettable views. The deltas of the Casamance and Saloum Rivers provide the opportunity to experience Senegal’s abundant birdlife. In these regions, trips in a pirogue through the mangrove forests, tiny creeks and vast lagoons allow you to truly lose yourself in nature and experience small village life.

Wildlife? Senegal offers opportunities to view varied wildlife in its natural habitat, even within easy distance of Dakar. And if you go farther afield, wildlife may be observed on a larger scale in one of West Africa’s foremost national parks: the Niokolo-Koba National Park. Here you can see, among others, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, and abundant birdlife.

Senegal is famed as the land of “teranga,” meaning traditional Senegalese hospitality. Africa’s warmest welcome awaits you when you come to experience all there is to see and do in Senegal!
